The Skåneleden trail

1,000 km of hiking trails, accessible thanks partly to the right of public access, but particularly to around 1,500 landowners who allow access to their private property for free.

The trail actually comprises four sections which have been linked together. It would take almost three months to walk the 80 or so routes. But although there are rest stops and places to stay overnight along the way, most people choose a slightly shorter expedition.

The trail has become a key part of many local school children's education, with nature studies proving a real inspiration.

The authorities see the cost of maintaining the trail as an investment in health and well-being. After all, around 90% of Skåne's population lives towns and cities, and the trail offers fantastic opportunities for experiencing nature. And visitors from further afield have come to appreciate this, too.
